Stress Management

15 July 2021

Stress streeeesss.. that's what people often complain about. Sometimes this is considered trivial or something given is natural and impossible to control or avoid. As a result, many surrendered and accepted their condition. If our subordinates or colleagues are stressed, does this not have an impact on us (directly or indirectly)?

According to the survey, stress causes work accidents and absenteeism rates increase, productivity decreases, fatal heart disease, medical costs increase. The consequences of stress can be psychological: anxiety, decreased creativity, inferiority, forgetfulness, over-sensitivity; also physiological: easy fatigue, excessive sweating, allergies, dizziness, ulcer disorders, menstrual disorders; and behavioral changes: daydreaming, smoking, drinking, irritability, stuttering, impulsive shopping.

Any business needs to take this stress seriously and cannot turn a blind eye. At least even though we cannot remove them, but can try to reduce their causes and effects.

One way to control stress is to do the appropriate time management. Many people experience a lack of time even though now there are many technologies that can improve our work efficiency. Let's try to detail the use of our time so far, how much is really effective and how much we spend on trivial things. Some calls, texts, emails and meetings are time-consuming but not so important. Delegate routine and less important reports to subordinates. Use the right technology to manage our time. We don't have to attend all meetings, we don't have to answer all emails immediately. Research which tasks can still be postponed and which ones are critical.

Sports and recreational / relaxation activities are also alternative stress relievers or at least increase our immune system to deal with stress.

Socializing with other people is also a stress reliever. A person can channel his outpouring of his heart to a friend who is willing to listen patiently without judging or giving judgment.

A patient complains to his doctor about his illness even though he regularly exercises and implementing a healthy lifestyle (keeping food/drink, not smoking). Doctors say that the cause is one: STRESS.

But I can't help but think, I'm not a selfish person! this might be the answer from someone who just received the advice "Never mind, don't think about it". Many of us feel that we are responsible for other people's problems and feel that thinking about ourselves is a negative thing. That's why there is often a term "people who are indifferent and stress free".

I recommend trying to think about yourself for just ONE DAY, or if you can't, an hour just. Concentrate specific time to think about yourself. Thinking about yourself does not automatically mean harming others. Making yourself happy makes people close to you happy too. Who wants to be close to a gloomy / grumpy? Who wants to be friends with stressed person (even though he is a good person)?

The "obligation" to make everyone happy stresses us out.

Expecting other people to think the same as us will also make us stressed. Examine ourselves, what beliefs have been holding us back? Are we so obsessed with being "good people" that we frustrated when people don't appreciate our kindness or don't think we're good?

One more thing, helping others can also mean making yourself happy. Make a donation to those in need are also actions that make us happy. So avoid the view that making yourself happy means harming others and vice versa. Life and this world is a gift from God and surely God does not want us to fill it with stress and sadness.
